Weaving Dreams with Light: Asia International Photography Week Dadun Art Festival Opens
[Dadun Village, China·April 30, 2025] When a centuries-old village meets contemporary photographic art, dormant houses awaken to the embrace of light and shadow. Today, the Weaving Dreams with Light: Dadun Art Festival officially commenced, co-hosted by Asia International Photography Week and the Asia Culture and Arts Foundation, organized by the Dadun Photography Association, and co-supported by Guangdong Cultural Reference News, the Guangdong Entrepreneurs Photography Society, and Dadun Village Cultural & Creative (Foshan) Co., Ltd. Centered on photography as a medium and rural revitalization as its core, this artistic event transforms the bricks, tiles, and beams of Lingnan’s ancient architecture into a natural exhibition space, using the language of lenses and light to spark a cross-temporal cultural dialogue.
Old Houses as Canvases, Light as Brushstrokes: Art Revives Rural Memories
Deep within the narrow alleys of Dadun Village, timeworn houses shed their silence. Mottled brick walls become vast “image canvases,” while the shifting light of courtyards turns into dynamic backdrops. Over 100 artworks are seamlessly integrated into the village’s fabric through a “borderless exhibition”format. Through the lens, rural memories intertwine with contemporary artistic expression. “We reject the ‘white cube’ gallery model, allowing art to grow organically from the cracks of these ancient homes,” stated the curators. Local villagers have also become co-creators, with photographers using their life stories as scripts to reconstruct a “new rural narrative.”
Art Revitalizes the Village: Igniting a New Path for Rural Renaissance
“Art is never a detached ornament—it must take root in the land as a seed,” emphasized the organizing committee. Alongside the festival, the “Dadun Co-Creation Project”has launched: the Dadun Photography Association trains villagers as “local storytellers,”an art market fosters handicraft IP development, and vacant houses are revitalized into artist residency hubs.
The festival will run until May 30, featuring events such as the Dadun Photography Workshops and the Rural Image Archive Exhibition. Like the gradual illumination of old houses at dawn, this art-driven revitalization practice breathes new life into the village—where light reaches, the future unfolds.
